Charges against felon don’t include slaying of woman

Friday, March 16, 2001 | 12:05 p.m.

A felon released from prison in November was charged in connection with a robbery in a Henderson home where a 33-year-old woman was killed, but he was not charged with murder.

Cornelius Eugene Rogers, 35, was booked Wednesday into the Henderson jail on possession of stolen property. Henderson Police detectives served a search warrant on Rogers and found items taken from the home where 33-year-old Julie Holt was found dead and bound on the floor of a bathroom, police said.

Police also found items taken from the scene of the slaying in another apartment in the complex where a relative of Rogers lived.

Rogers was not charged in connection with the homicide, but police said the investigation was continuing. Police would not reveal what items were found in Rogers' apartment on Sandy Lane near Cheyenne Avenue and Pecos Road in Las Vegas.

Rogers was released Nov. 3 from Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs. He served about seven years of a 22-year sentence for burglary, attempted robbery and battery, state prison officials said.

On Tuesday, Holt's father came home and found her dead in the house and several items from the house missing.
