Local ROTC cadets take part in Race for the Cure
Thursday, March 15, 2001 | 11:02 a.m.
Thirty UNLV and Community College of Southern Nevada ROTC cadets took part in the Race for the Cure Saturday, which began and finished at the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson.
Cadet Taunya Ford, a Communication Studies and Social Sciences major, served as officer-in-charge of coordinating cadet participation in Race for the Cure. Ford also is president of the Cadet Command, an ROTC booster association, serves as vice chairwoman for UNLV's Moyer Student Union advisory board and is active in multicultural affairs organizations on campus. She served as president of the Black Student Association during the fall semester. Cadets Conrad White and Robin MacBride helped Ford organize the cadets in the Race for the Cure.
UNLV and Community College cadets in the Southern Nevada ROTC program participate in a variety of projects each year outside of traditional military activities, Ford said. "Besides our participation in multicultural recognition programs on campus, we look for other service projects in the community. We volunteer to help out with finish-line events at the Las Vegas NASCAR (race) each year and we will be participating in the Friendship Games this month on campus."
The Army ROTC Department, which is administered through UNLV's College of Extended Studies, is on the West Charleston campus of the Community College of Southern Nevada. Call (702) 651-5085 for information. In brief
