Getting the most out of that dorm room

To make the transition from a room at home to a dorm room, Glenna Morton, interior decorator consultant for About.com, offers some decorating hints:
* A large area rug will soften the look and feel of a dorm-room floor and make the room more inviting for late-night pizza parties or cramming for tests.
* A feather mattress topper can make a lumpy bed heavenly.
* A good light livens up a dreary room.
* A comfortable chair eases the rigors of studying.
* Organizational accessories, such as over-the-door shoe bags, can add space to a cramped closet.
* A large body pillow is not only great for sleeping, but can turn a bed into a sofa.
* Plastic-handled laundry and shower totes are waterproof carryalls to take to the community bathroom or laundry room.
* A large bulletin board can showcase photos of new friends as well as pin down important messages and reminders.
* Filing crates organize the past semester's notes or tests for quick reference.
* Wall decor makes any room your own. Make a collage of your favorite photos to personalize drab walls.
