BASEBALL
Cimarron-Memorial 8, Canyon View (Utah) 5: In St. George, Utah, Robert Grana hit a two-run homer to lead the Spartans to victory.
Desert Pines 6, Mojave 5, 8 inn. Steve Chmiel pitched eight strong innings, went 3-for-5 and scored the game-winning run in the eighth to help the Jaguars win their varsity opener.
Bishop Gorman 13, Eldorado 1: Greg Marshall went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs for the Gaels, who also got a two-run homer from Cooper Fouts.
Rancho 3, Western 2: Greg Passalacqua's pinch-hit single tied the game in the final frame, and Danny Parrish's RBI single won it for the Rams.
Palo Verde 4, Green Valley 3: Justin Newman singled home Dean Fore in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Panthers to the win. Eric Newman finished 2-for-4, while Larry Ellenbrook scattered five hits over seven innings on the mound.
Durango 4, Las Vegas 3: Jake Stretz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double, and Joe Campo went 2-for-4 to lead the Trailblazers.
Centennial 12, Valley 2: Chris Bonnell and Derek Brundage had three hits apiece to lead the Bulldog attack.
Chaparral 3, Clark 2, 8 innings: Matt Backes' two-out single won it for the Cowboys, who got a complete-game three-hitter from Billy Leigh. Nick Miller struck out seven batters in the loss for the Chargers.
Silverado 4, Cheyenne 0: Tyler Coon's 3-run triple broke a scoreless tied in the sixth, and Ken Clayton struck out seven and yielded three hits in seven innings.
SOFTBALL
Clark 4, Green Valley 3: The Chargers scored three times in the bottom of the seventh, with Joann Laman singling home the winning run.
Durango 6, Pine View (Utah) 0: Tisha Salamino combined on a one-hitter. Stephanie Fisco went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.
Silverado 7, Cheyenne 0: Kassie Koenig and Lindsey Pridgen had two hits apiece for the Skyhawks.
Chaparral 13, Rancho 4: Allyn Hadfield went 2-for-4 with a homer for the Cowboys.

Durango def. Foothill, 15-9, 15-3, 15-11: Mason Duff dished out 30 assists, and Tyson Walker had 13 kills for the Blazers.
Green Valley def. Western, 15-10, 15-10, 3-15, 15-5: Seth Rasmussen had 10 kills and six blocks and Aaron Mueller contributed five digs off the bench for the Gators.
