Letter: Mourning a champion

Friday, March 9, 2001 | 2:03 a.m.

I just had to write and congratulate Ron Kantowski for his great column "Drivers are safer than you think" (March 1). I can't even stand to listen when the radio talk show hosts turn their focus to NASCAR following a tragedy such as Dale Earnhardt's death. When something like this happens, the idiots have a field day.

Anyway, thanks for telling it like it is. I agreed with every word. I had followed Dale Earnhardt since his start in racing. He was old school -- there aren't, nor will there be, anyone like him again.

I have read every column and article since his death. Yours was the one that I read and yelled out loud: "Yes!"
