Las Vegas Council briefs for March 8, 2001

Thursday, March 8, 2001 | 11:01 a.m.

The Las Vegas City Council Wednesday applauded the hard work of Deputy Planning Director Bob Genzer, promoting him to the Planning Department's top position after a two-month delay.

Genzer struck a deal with the city in which he will divest his minority interest in a Mesquite property with developer Randy Black. He will also disclose and remove himself from taking part in decisions having to do with property his wife and her family own in the city.

Genzer's promotion was put on hold as the city manager began looking into his financial disclosure forms and worked to strengthen the city's ethics codes relating to conflicts of interest.

City makes deal with developer

The city has entered into an exclusive 60-acre negotiating agreement with WLVD, LLC to develop 11 acres in West Las Vegas.

The parcel, known as "Parcel B" next to Magic's Westland Plaza Mall, is located at Lake Mead and Martin Luther King boulevards.

In the next 60 days, the city will negotiate with the company to develop a commercial shopping center. The developer must have evidence of how it will finance the project.

Urban America, an nonprofit group based in New York, will take over the project once it is completed.

Vendors sought for new complex

The city is looking for qualified vendors to plan, design and construct a professional bicycle motocross facility on two acres at Ed Fountain Park.

The city is proposing to lease 2 acres to the selected developer which would run the facility at the corner of Washington Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.
