Columnist Ron Kantowski: Let the MWC games begin

There are only two sure things to be said about this year's Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament that got under way today at the Thomas & Mack Center.
One is that UNLV won't be in it. The second is that not a hair on dapper MWC commissioner Craig Thompson's head will be out of place.
At least five of the seven teams who play by the rules (or at least haven't been caught breaking them) have a legitimate shot at running the table and joining the NCAA Tournament field of 64 1/2. (I still don't know how to classify the "play-in" game.) And given the way they've been playing, it's going to take a well-chalked cue to put San Diego State and Air Force in the side pocket.
In other words, it's simply impossible to predict what's going to happen. But where's the fun in not trying?
While all this is going on, somebody will spot Craig Thompson drinking a pina colada with a werewolf -- or at least Dick Vitale -- at Trader Vic's.
His hair will still be perfect.
