Two teachers win presidential awards

CARSON CITY -- Two teachers from Clark County have been named winners of presidential awards for excellence in mathematics and science instruction.
Kristian Postlewait, who teaches at David M. Cox Elementary School in Henderson, is being recognized by the National Science Foundation for mathematics teaching in elementary schools. The award for excellence in math teaching at a secondary school goes to Irma Pumphey from the Hyde Park Middle School in Las Vegas.
Each award carries a grant of $7,500 to the recipient's school. The winners also will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to get their awards.
Others named in Nevada were Christine Kimberley, who teaches at the Florence Drake Elementary School in Sparks, recognized for science teaching, and Jeffery Johnston from Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School in Gardnerville, recognized for science teaching in a secondary school.
