Neighborhood rocked by slayings one day apart

North Las Vegas Police are continuing to investigate two weekend homicides at an apartment complex near Carey Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
The slayings are believed to be unrelated, despite occurring less than 24 hours apart and within about 500 feet of each other at the Buena Vista Springs Apartments, police said.
The first of the two homicides happened about 10 p.m. on Friday when 17-year-old Marcelino K. Doyle was found shot near an apartment in the complex, at 1712 W. McDonald Court.
Residents told police that they heard several gunshots, and after looking out their windows they saw Doyle on the ground. The teen suffered at least one gunshot wound in the chest, and he died at the scene, police said.
Police have no suspects.
A second man was killed about 3 p.m. on Saturday in the complex near an apartment at 2535 Morton Ave. The 26-year-old victim was shot several times and was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died. The man's name was not released this morning.
Detectives believe that three men shot the victim and fled the area on foot, but add that the investigation is being hindered by a lack of cooperation from witnesses.
Anyone with information about either of these homicides is asked to call police at 633-9111 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
