Letter: Rate hikes get a rubber stamp
Monday, March 5, 2001 | 9:07 a.m.
I would like to protest the ridiculous 17 percent rate hike that Nevada Power is going to get. It seems to me that whenever Sprint, Southwest Gas, Cox Communications or the power company wants more money it is always approved.
Who do we complain to? Who are these people in authority that always grant their wishes. How well are these rate hikes investigated? How many of these people who grant the rate hikes are stockholders in these companies? Why do people in upper management in these companies make so much money if they are doing so poorly? They should take a 17 percent cut in their pay, which will never happen.
These rate hikes cost us more than the 17 percent. I am sure the grocery chains, dry cleaners, restaurants, etc., will all be raising their prices. How about the hospitals and schools and all the government buildings. Why doesn't the media investigate this? I haven't seen or heard anything from them. When you raise the price of the newspapers I will quit my subscription. I have to save someplace.
