Company sued in Pennsylvania
Monday, March 5, 2001 | 11:39 a.m.
Anchor Gaming Inc. of Las Vegas has been sued for breach of contract by a minority-owned Pennsylvania firm.
Swifteagle Enterprises Inc. of Harrisburg, an Indian-owned computer equipment company, was the supplier of computer equipment to Anchor subsidiary Automated Wagering International Inc. AWI holds the contract to operate the Pennsylvania State Lottery, and is required to make a certain level of purchases from minority-owned firms.
AWI broke this business relationship and went with another minority-owned firm after receiving permission from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Contract Administration. Swifteagle responded with a lawsuit in Pennsylvania state court.
"AWI has basically told us to get lost because they have another (minority-owned) contractor to supply computers," said Swifteagle President James Crews. "We have received no help from the state, and they have favored AWI from the beginning. We believe AWI and the state have taken the position that if you don't like it, sue us. We have done so."
An Anchor spokesman declined comment.
