Joe Delaney remembers 1984: Dangerfield at Caesars Palace

Friday, March 2, 2001 | 8:35 a.m.

Caesars Palace in 1984 was the big breakthrough in Las Vegas for Rodney Dangerfield. After years of playing the Tropicana Blue Room, Dangerfield was riding the crest with a hit movie, "Caddyshack," following it a few years later in 1986 with a mega-hit, "Back To School." Dangerfield's parting with Caesars Palace involved a lawsuit over a faulty shower in his dressing room. He then became a regular at Bally's for several years before moving to the MGM Grand in the 1990s. He'll perform there March 22-28. Now a full-time Las Vegas resident, he seems content with a limited personal-appearance schedule.
