Woman killed in collision
A 59-year-old woman was killed on Wednesday when the car she was riding in turned into the path of an oncoming vehicle in Henderson.
The accident occurred about noon at the intersection of College and Horizon drives, Henderson Police said.
A 1986 Nissan 300ZX, occupied by three Foothill High School students, was headed north on College and began to drive through the Horizon intersection on a green signal, police said.
A 1991 Subaru station wagon tried to make a left turn from southbound College onto Horizon as the Nissan was in the intersection, causing a collision, police said.
The 70-year-old driver of the Suburu was taken to University Medical Center and treated for minor injuries, but his 59-year-old passenger, Arlene M. Maczkol of Henderson, died at the scene.
The students in the Nissan suffered only minor injuries. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police at 565-8933.
Woman wounded in parking lot
Metro Police robbery detectives are looking for a dark blue Chevrolet sedan in connection with the shooting of a woman outside a mall Monday night.
The car is further described as a newer model Impala or Caprice, with black designs in the center of the hub caps. The car also had California plates.
Margaret Turner, 54, was shot about 6:15 p.m. as she left Dillard's at the Meadows mall, near U.S. 95 and Valley View Boulevard. She was attempting to get into her car when she was shot, police said.
Turner was in critical condition this morning in University Medical Center.
Killing suspect arrested here
An Indiana man was arrested in Nevada in the killing of a man whose body was found in brush along an Arizona highway.
Homer Roseberry of Franklin, Ind., was picked up by police in Henderson after Arizona authorities found new reason to arrest him for the second time.
A Yavapai County sheriff's investigation gathered new evidence in the death of Fred Fottler of San Fernando, Calif., whose body was dumped in October off Highway 93 near Wikieup, 120 miles northwest of Phoenix.
Roseberry, 56, originally was arrested Jan. 23 at a home in Franklin on a first-degree murder warrant. He was extradited to Arizona then released because of a lack of evidence.
California starts work on project
Five years of widening and improvement work begins this month on Interstate 15 from California to the Las Vegas area.
The California Department of Transportation met with Nevada tourism, transportation and law enforcement officials to outline efforts to limit traffic tie-ups on the key freeway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
"Northbound, we won't even touch the road on Fridays. Southbound, we won't work on Mondays," said Tom Olson, a CalTrans construction manager who acknowledged heavy weekend traffic on the road.
CalTrans' first I-15 project will add a third lane in each direction from Baker, Calif., to just south of the California-Nevada state line. Two other projects will widen the road to Barstow.
The Nevada Department of Transportation plans this summer to begin widening southbound I-15 from south of Sloan to Primm at the state line. That project is scheduled to be complete by early 2002.
