LV man, 86, hit by car
An 86-year-old Las Vegas man died Thursday after he was hit by a car after he attempted to cross Lake Mead Boulevard against a traffic signal.
Harvey Lockett tried to cross northbound at Lake Mead and D Street about 7:30 a.m. and stepped in front of a Chevrolet Camaro headed east on Lake Mead, Metro Police said.
Lockett was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries and died at the hospital at 12:45 p.m.
Suspect sought in North Las Vegas
North Las Vegas police were searching this morning for a suspect accused of stabbing to death a 30-year-old man who had been talking to the suspect's ex-wife.
Miguel Reyes-Carreon, 28, is accused of stabbing a 30-year-old man inside an apartment in the 2200 block of Statz Street near Carey Avenue about 10:50 p.m. Thursday, police said.
The man was taken to University Medical Center but died at 11:25 p.m., officials said.
The victim, whose name was not released this morning, was talking with a woman, who was a neighbor, in front of her apartment when her ex-husband showed up. An argument started between the ex-husband and the woman, police said.
The male neighbor went inside her apartment to avoid the argument. Police say the ex-husband then went into the apartment, got a knife from the kitchen and confronted the neighbor, police said.
The male neighbor was stabbed several times and the ex-husband fled the area in a white Cadillac. The car was found a short time later, police said.
There were several children in the apartment at the time of the attack, police said.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the North Las Vegas Police at 633-9111 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
Water restored after 12 hours
Water was restored this morning to the Palace Station and surrounding neighborhoods after a water main break Thursday near Sahara Avenue and Rancho Drive cut water off for 12 hours.
The incident happened about 2 p.m. when road construction crews working on I-15 broke the pipe, a Las Vegas Valley Water District spokeswoman said.
Homes from Industrial Road west to Rancho Drive and from Okay Drive south to Sahara Avenue were without water on and off while crews worked into the night to repair the broken main. The Palace Station was without water for 12 hours.
The broken main caused minor flooding near the intersection of Western and Wyoming avenues.
New landing spaces granted
The Henderson Planning Commission on Thursday granted the Lake Las Vegas heliport seven new landing spaces for its landing pad at the northeast dam on Lake Las Vegas.
The new tie-down spaces, added to one existing landing space, will allow the facility to handle 10 flights a day for visitors who want to view homes for sale, eat at a restaurant or fly to a hotel, according to the application.
Barbara Baird, of Bossard Develper Services, said the expanded facility will ease take-offs and landings. The helicopters will operate between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., she said.
Three residents of Calico Ridge, a neighborhood southeast of Lake Las Vegas, complained that helicopters fly too close to their homes and cause too much noise.
Baird said many of those helicopters were likely owned by different companies touring the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon.
Planning Commissioner JoAnn Huffaker said the residents might be better served airing their complaints at a different venue.
