Go take a hike; it's educational
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes and walks free of charge, but reservations are required for all programs, which begin at the Visitor's Center. To make reservations or for information call 363-1922. Some coming programs:
Remembering the Old Spanish Trail: a program for ages 12 to adults will began Sunday. Discover a secret riparian area on this easy (less than one mile) hike into Wheeler Springs and discuss the Spanish missionaries' trade route and the areas later used by Mormon pioneers. Bring water and your binoculars. Meet at the Fee Station.
Looking for Wildlife: This will be a one mile moderate hike Wednesday to locate wildlife in the Lost Creek area. Also discuss the importance and natural history of the species that might be found along the trail. Bring water and binoculars.
Postal Service honors team members
A flag sporting the team jersey and autographs of the U.S. Postal Service pro cycling team members, including two-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, will be raised at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the main post office, 1001 E. Sunset Road.
A bike ride will also take place at 7 a.m. from the northwest corner of Hualapai Way and Charleston Boulevard, finishing at the post office. A choice of either a 38- or 60-mile loop will be offered.
The flag will be displayed at the main post office, and the public is invited to enter a drawing to win the flag.
For more information, call Vic Fenimore at 361-9408.
