A 19-year-old man was arrested this morning on suspicion of carjacking and robbery with a deadly weapon after he allegedly threatened a taxi driver with a submachine gun, Henderson Police said.
The incident occurred about 5:30 a.m. outside Sunset Station. Police said Arnoldo Diaz and an accomplice stole a taxicab and headed east on Sunset Road, but they lost control of the cab and collided with another vehicle.
Police said Diaz and his accomplice tried to flee on foot, but Diaz was apprehended by officers. The accomplice was not apprehended.
An occupant in the car struck by the cab was transported to UMC with minor injuries and is expected to be treated and released today, a hospital spokesman said.
The suspect who left the scene is described as a heavy-set, Hispanic male, about 5 feet, 10 inches. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, baggy blue jeans and a white baseball hat. Anyone with information is asked to call Henderson police at 565-8933 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
