Letter: Tax rebates have downside
Monday, June 25, 2001 | 9:15 a.m.
As the holder of an advanced degree in economics (including macro-economics), I think that Americans are going to be in for a real shock with the Bush tax cut.
Enjoy your little tax rebate check (if you get one) because Bush's tax plan is going to significantly reduce federal funds that normally come back to the states.
Bear this in mind when you get your check: The Bush White House and congressional Republicans have not stated clearly from where the funds will come to finance this tax plan. And that is why Democrats and some Republicans voted against this flawed act of legislation.
Enjoy your rebate for now.
