Letter: Bush’s rating plunges, with good reason

Friday, June 22, 2001 | 3:52 a.m.

The latest polls, as reported by national news services, show that the public's confidence in George W. Bush is continuing to drop. No wonder, the arrogance that was shown on his recent trip to Europe did not demonstrate his skills as a world leader but proved that he was more like a cocky oil man from Texas.

When you add to that the performance and lack of integrity of key members of his executive staff, one has to wonder if he is more interested in lining the pockets of his cohorts from "Big Business" than he is about the welfare of the nation.

There is Vice President Dick Cheney, with his behind-closed-door sessions with his cronies from the petroleum and energy industries.

Add to that the performance of Karl Rove and others, and one sees where this administration's priorities lie, obviously not for the good of the nation, but for the good of special interests.

It would seem that unless George W. changes his spots and cleans out some of the self-serving special interests in the White House, that his approval rating with the people will continue to fall and re-election in 2004 will, like his father's in 1992, be only a dream as it goes down the tubes.
