Joe Delaney remembers 2000: Acosta at Luxor
Friday, June 22, 2001 | 10:20 a.m.
Bill Acosta was a successful singing performer long before he discovered his exceptional abilities as an impressionist. Atlantic City was his performing bailiwick before he brought his "Lasting Impressions" to the Luxor's Pharaoh's Theatre in the late 1990s. His success there led Acosta and his producer, Jeanne Bavaro, to expand the concept with a live orchestra and a line of topless dancers and move it into the twice-the-size Flamingo Las Vegas showroom in November 2000. Acosta's approach is equally intense but more leisurely than most impressionists, giving more time for nuances and character development.
