Letter: One safe bet in Las Vegas: Don’t drink the water
Thursday, June 21, 2001 | 8:43 a.m.
The Las Vegas Valley Water District is spending thousands of taxpayer money to assure the skeptical public that the drinking water is safe. Wanna buy a bridge in Manhattan?
The "brains" in their infinite wisdom (?) did away with the wetlands at Lake Mead, thus allowing the sun to beat down and encourage the thick growth of algae now visible. This same algae consists of all the refuse (including communicable diseases) in millions of gallons of water flushed every day.
If the water district considers our drinking water (containing poisons such as arsenic and fluoride) so safe, why are all city, county and state employees offered bottled water (and at whose expense)?
Pat Mulroy, general manager of the Las Vegas Valley Water District, recently spoke to a group I belong to, and upon arrival she drank bottled water!
Evidently, our officials have a motto, "Do as I say, not as I do."
Don't drink the water, folks. Of course, 70 percent of you already don't.
