Fire departments to hold seminars
Tuesday, June 19, 2001 | 10:23 a.m.
The Las Vegas and North Las Vegas fire departments, as part of their joint firefighter trainee recruitment program, will play host to four information seminars in the coming months.
The cities every two years conduct a recruitment period to compile a pool of applicants for new firefighter positions, said Judy Tuttle, a human resources manager with the city of Las Vegas.
"We're trying to stay ahead of the curve," Tuttle said. "You never know when new stations are going to need to be opened."
Tuttle said about 100 firefighting positions will need to be filled in the two cities over the next five years. About 90 percent of those positions will be in Las Vegas, she said.
Those applying for the trainee program must be 18, have an Emergency Medical Technician Basic certificate and meet physical requirements.
The first information forum will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the West Las Vegas Library on 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. For more information about the trainee program call 392-2774.
