Gagne to start tonight
Monday, June 18, 2001 | 9:44 a.m.
The Las Vegas 51s open a four-game homestand against the Pacific Coast League Central Division-leading Salt Lake Stingers, the triple-A affiliate of the California Angels, tonight at Cashman Field at 7:10.
Right-hander Eric Gagne (0-0), a starter for the Dodgers much of the season, will make his first triple-A start of the season for Las Vegas (31-40) and will be opposed by right-hander Brian Cooper (5-4).
The 51s had a rare two-game road win streak snapped on Sunday night at Nashville, 3-2.
Catcher Angel Pena, like Gagne also recently demoted to triple-A by the Dodgers, had given Las Vegas a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning with a long home run over the fence in right-center.
But Nashville rebounded to take a 3-1 lead in the fifth when second baseman Chris Petersen hit his first triple-A homer of the year to left off 51s starter Victor Alvarez (2-2).
