Goodman aide Castro resigns

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman has lost his second aide in less than one month.

According to a city spokesperson, Chris Castro submitted his resignation to the city Thursday. The resignation was voluntary.

Before becoming the mayor's aide, Castro was a staff member with former Sen. Richard Bryan's office and also worked on Goodman's mayoral campaign as liaison to the Asian community.

Castro's resignation comes just weeks after Goodman's chief aide resigned his post. William Cassidy was arrested by Metro Police in the morning of June 1 and charged with domestic battery. He resigned later that afternoon.

With his two top aides gone, Goodman's only remaining assistant is Stephanie Boixo.

Heists made at Gold Coast, 7-Eleven

Adoption Exchange urges awareness

Supporters of a new adoption campaign are urging private corporations to help spread the word about 75 children in foster care who need permanent homes.

The Adoption Exchange, in partnership with the Nevada State Division of Child and Family Services, the Dave Thomas Foundation, the First AME Church, and Las Vegas Municipal Judge Nancy Saitta have combined efforts to host the "2001 Adoption Campaign."

The state of Nevada has approximately 4,000 children in foster care. Of those, 75 children with special needs are currently available for adoption.

The campaign's goal is to recruit families for 75 children with special needs by enlisting the help of 75 corporations.

Corporations would be asked to provide information about adoptions to their clients, customers and employees.

For information on how to join the adoption campaign call the Adoption Exchange at 436-6335.
