Letter: Let Russia take nuclear waste
Friday, June 15, 2001 | 4:58 a.m.
Russia's Atomic Energy Ministry says it could earn up to $20 billion by importing 22,000 tons of spent nuclear fuel over 10 years. Part of this money would be used to clean up Russian regions polluted by radioactive waste.
I wonder if the U.S. government should enter the bidding. It might be a good way to get rid of our spent fuel, put some money in the till, and end the Yucca Mountain controversy.
