More than $3,000 raised for trooper
KXNT radio's Jeff Katz raised more than $3,000 last week for a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper, Robert Kintzel, who was critically injured in April when trying to stop a fleeing motorist. Katz urges others to donate what they can.
Kintzel remains in the hospital, recovering from a surgery where a portion of his brain was removed. His injuries included a fractured skull and pelvis, and internal bleeding.
Donations may be directed to a Bank of America account: 0049636119217. For more information, call 889-7339.
Palo Verde student wins national award
Palo Verde High School student Orlando Montenegro has won the 20th annual Congressional Art Contest, Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., announced.
The winning piece, "Natures Debutante," is a multicolored oil on canvas painting of a woman standing beside a river bank. The painting will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with the winning pieces from other congressional districts.
Montenegro and three of his guests on Tuesday will fly, courtesy of the contest's sponsor, Southwest Airlines, to Washington, D.C., for the national ceremony.
