Club gathering

A select group of Las Vegas residents and celebrity VIPS have been elected as charter members of the Board of Governors serving the posh Stirling Club at Turnberry Place.

Its first formal gathering was hosted by Asaad Faraq, vice president-general manager for the Stirling Club, with Brad Milsap, director of membership, and was a splendid hint of the elegant affairs ahead. Laurie Kendrick of Wild Sage Cafe catered the intimate reception and made good use of her staff, which quietly served a lush array of hors d'ouevres and beverages. Michael Gilbert, national president of the Stirling Club, spoke of the exclusive nature of membership and the wide range of amenities that will include clay court tennis, a spacious spa, five-star dining and other refinements spread through an 80,000-square-foot facility due to open by fall.

Manny Cortez, as founding chairman of the board of governors, spoke briefly to the assembled governors including Jan Laverty Jones, Frank Schreck, Roger Peltyn, UNLV football coach John Robinson, Terry Wright and Rita Rudner. Others who will also serve include Betty Weider, Sig Rogich, Francis MacDonald, Dr. Julio Garcia, Phil Peckman and Robin Greenspun, as well as Rino Armeni, Sue Shifrin-Cassidy, Lee Majors, Phil Maloof, Bill Hubner, James Caan and Danny Gans. Introduced was spa director Keri Printy, formerly of the Regent Las Vegas, who was seen with JoAnna Cortez, Paola Armeni, Sharon Bader, Jennifer Thornburgh, Phyllis McGuire, Linda Robinson and Dana Wright.
