Big apparel maker files for bankruptcy

NEW YORK -- The Warnaco Group Inc., the maker of Calvin Klein jeans and Speedo swimsuits, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today, citing a general economic downturn, a weak retail environment and struggles with its $1.5 billion in debt.
For the first quarter ended April 7, the company lost $62.5 million, or $1.18 per share, on revenue of $499 million.
