Outlet mall planned for downtown Las Vegas
Thursday, June 7, 2001 | 11:10 a.m.
Chelsea Property Group Inc., a big owner of outlet malls in the United States and Japan, said it plans to build an outlet shopping center in downtown Las Vegas.
Chelsea didn't disclose the location.
But Donna Alderson, a broker with CB Richard Ellis, said the outlet center is set for Grand Central Parkway and Bonneville Avenue.
Chelsea is negotiating to buy the land from Union Pacific Railroad. The project is unrelated to other plans revealed last week for downtown land including a film studio, a medical center, a cultural arts center and a sports arena.
Chelsea wholly or partially owns 27 outlet shopping centers -- containing 8.2 million square feet of gross leasable area -- in 15 states and in Japan. It reported first quarter revenue of $44.8 million
The company said it's also in the predevelopment stage of projects outside Chicago and Seattle that are expected to open in late 2002 to early 2003.
