Estalena Graybeal Barrier

Estalena Graybeal Barrier, 92, of Carson City died May 30 in a Carson Tahoe hospital. She was born Jan. 8, 1909, in Mortimer, N.C. A former Henderson and Boulder City resident, she was a homemaker, a practical nurse, past president of Carson City's Homemaker Club and a church pianist.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Hanmer of Carson City and Loretta Moseley of Jonas Ridge, N.C.; one sister, Louise Gay Woodie; four grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City, is handling arrangements.

Wilbert Alexander Carr

Wilbert Alexander Carr, 76, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 17, 1926, in Tallulah, La. A resident for 33 years, he was an auto technician for an automotive repair shop.

He is survived by three daughters, Harriet Christensen of Las Vegas, Deborah Carr of Pamona, Calif., and Marilyn Carr of Atlanta; one son, Wilbert Carr of Rialto, Calif.; one sister, Dessie Roberts of Louisiana; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 1-5 p.m. Sunday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Bunker Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Francis 'Ned' Connery

Francis "Ned" Connery of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born July 12, 1927, in New York. A resident for 49 years, he was an executive floorman in the gaming industry, Navy veteran, and a member of the Elks.

He is survived by three sons, Frank L. Connery, Kevin Davis Connery and Douglas Andrew Tobias; and one daughter, Robin Anne Connery; and one brother, Robert Connery.

Roy Dominguez

Roy Dominguez, 73, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Colorado. A resident for many years, he was a railroad car man.

He is survived by his wife, Marie.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Cheyenne, Wyo. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Alletha Dorsey-Roberson

Alletha Dorsey-Roberson, 88, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 11, 1912, in Tyler, Texas. A resident for 55 years, she was a city government clerk and a retired member of Culinary Union 127.

She is survived by three sons, Gerald Wayne Roberson of Pasadena, Calif., and Paul Velzar Roberson and Vernon Lynn Roberson, both of Las Vegas; five brothers, Elder Harold Dorsey and Elder Willie Russell Dorsey, both of Las Vegas, Floyd Dorsey Jr. of Tyler, Karl Richard Dorsey of Seattle and Jerry Dorsey of Milwaukee; six sisters, Louise Dorsey of Las Vegas, Areddie Lewis of Columbus, Ga., Ruby Curry of Pomona, Calif., and Winnie Crawford, Lessie Voyd and Margret Johnigan, all of Tyler; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-8 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Powerhouse Church of God in Christ, 1216 W. Adams Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Emil V. Drenta

Emil V. Drenta, 72, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born May 27, 1929, in Canton, Ohio. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired builder/land developer, Korean War Army veteran and a member of the Masons.

He is survived by one daughter, Margaret Drenta of Henderson; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3 p.m. until a 5 p.m. memorial service Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Milton VanPelt Eiler

Milton VanPelt Eiler, 79, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born May 18, 1922, in Ohio. A resident for 43 years, he was a hotel general manager, a World War II Coast Guard veteran and a member of the UNLV Football Foundation.

He is survived by three sons, Robert, Gary and James; one daughter, Brenda Devall; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jack P. Hammond

Jack P. Hammond, 82, of Boulder City died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Moore, Okla. A resident for 11 years, he was a retired supermarket manager and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by four sons, Jim Hammond and Jack Hammond Jr., both of Boulder City, Jerry Hammond of Henderson and Joe Hammond of Edmond, Okla.; one sister, Edna Palmer of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 4-5 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Bernice Marion Handy

Bernice Marion Handy of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Massachusetts. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, William F. Handy; and one daughter, Carol A. Yannello.

John A. Larsen, 78, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born March 28, 1922, in Hastings, Mich. A resident for 51 years, he was a cab driver and a Marine Corps veteran.

June Shirley Lash of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born June 12, 1920, in Michigan. A resident for 15 years, she was a homemaker.

Alice Marchant

Alice Marchant, 77, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. She was born Sept. 21, 1923, in Newark, N.J. A resident for 37 years, she was a hotel pantry worker.

She is survived by one son, Gary Marchant of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Darrel J. Mouton Sr.

Darrel J. Mouton Sr., 74, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Lafayette, La. A resident for nine years, he was a retired plasterer/contractor and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by three daughters, Cheryl A. Ganier of Westminster, Calif., Darilyn M. Cunningham of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Debbie Mouton Declues of Yorba Linda, Calif.; one son, Darrel J. Mouton Jr. of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

William Matthew 'Matt' Nelson

William Matthew "Matt" Nelson, 28, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born June 12, 1972, in Ohio. A resident for three years, he was a computer programmer.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Westfall-Nelson, his parents, Lyn and Deborah; one brother, Charles Nelson; and one sister, Erika Vasquez, all of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Elmer Bernard Niewierowski

Elmer Bernard Niewierowski, 71, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 6, 1929, in Illinois. A resident for 21 years, he was a carpenter, a Navy veteran and a member of the Moose.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, Gary Niewierowski and Bob Niewierowski; one daughter, Laura Umfleet; two brothers, George and Daniel; one sister, Arlene; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Ethel Parcells

Ethel Parcells, 88, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. She was born Oct. 23, 1912, in Galac, Va. A resident for five years, she was a homemaker and a World War II Women's Army Corps veteran.

She is survived by one son, James Parcells of Las Vegas; two daughters, Loretta Bozylinski of Sunapee, N.H.; four sisters, Blanche Thompson of Cochranville, Pa., Dorothy Hoffman of Abilene, Texas, Nora Flynn of Tampa, Fla., and Ruth Hash of Newton, N.C.; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 90 minutes prior to a 10:30 a.m. service Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Susan H. Quirk

Susan H. Quirk, 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born June 23, 1927, in Boston. A resident for 11 years, she was a retired private secretary at an attorney's office.

She is survived by her husband, John Duarte.

Helen Marie Sedlak

Helen Marie Sedlak, 84, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born July 3, 1916, in New York City. A resident for two years, she was a secretary/clerk for the school system, a World War II Coast Guard veteran and a member of the Sun City McDonald Ranch Bowling and Garden Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Valerie Elliott of Olympia, Wash.

Marcella R. Shultz

Marcella R. Shultz, 79, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. She was born March 5, 1922, in Hornick, Iowa. A resident for eight years, she was a retired bank loan officer and a member of Beta Sigma Phi.

She is survived by her husband, James W.; two daughters, Karen Augspurger of Henderson and Kristi Elam; two sons, Jim Shultz of Boise, Idaho, and Thomas Shultz of Las Vegas; one sister, Patricia Williams of Crescent City, Calif.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

Darrell Wayne Smith

Darrell Wayne Smith, 56, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 4, 1944, in Oklahoma. A resident for 12 years, he was a tire changer for American Tire Co.

He is survived by two sons, Darrell Smith Jr. of Peoria, Ariz., and Rowdy Smith of Sonoma, Calif.; one daughter, Destiny Dawn Smith of Glendale, Ariz.; two brothers, Basil Smith of Dallas and Jerry Smith of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Ricarda Sosa

Ricarda Sosa, 85, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born July 17, 1915, in Puerto Rico. A resident for six years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Sosa and Leonard Sosa, both of Las Vegas; two brothers, Paco Limardo of New York City and Roberto Limardo of Miami; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Gilberto Soto

Gilberto Soto, 55, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 4, 1946, in Mexico. A resident for 30 years, he was a porter at the Golden Nugget.

He is survived by his wife, Rosario; four sons, Ragnar Rice, Ernesto Soto and Gilberto Soto, all of Las Vegas, and Guilia Soto of Mexico; three daughters, Mignon M. Rice and Esperansa Soto, both of Las Vegas; two brothers, Manuel Soto, Rafael Soto and Rogelio Soto, and two sisters, Mariadelaluz Soto and Emila Soto, all of Mexico; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 2-6 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 1840 N. Bruce St., Las Vegas. Burial will be private.

Jerry Lee Washington

Jerry Lee Washington, 46, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1954, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a heavy equipment operator for Clark County Parks and Recreation and a veteran of the Army National Guard.

He is survived by his companion, Beverly White, two sons, James Washington and Dereck Washington, his mother and stepfather, Ruthie Mae and Sam Harts, and his father and stepmother, Lemuel and Johnnie Washington, all of Las Vegas; five brothers, Elijah Jenkins, Andrew Chambers and Sam D. Harts, all of Las Vegas, Gregory Harts of Hastings, Neb., and Raymond Harts of North Las Vegas; seven sisters, Linda Jones of Tallulah, La., Mary Richards of North Las Vegas and Easter Kearney, Vickie Thomas, Ruthie Taylor, Cynthia Perez and Kathy Anderson, all of Las Vegas; and one stepsister, Juanita Fuller of Las Vegas.

Lucille G. Whipple

Lucille G. Whipple, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born July 11, 1930, in California. A resident for 25 years, she was a grocery store cashier.

She is survived by her husband, William S.; her parents, Michael and Violet Ciopryna; three sons, Dirk Whipple, Jan Whipple and Ron Whipple; two daughters, Cindy Wewell and Sharon Langhardt; one brother, Michael Ciopryna; one sister, Carol Mraz; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be noon Saturday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
