LV fuel line to be expanded

Wednesday, June 6, 2001 | 11:05 a.m.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP of Houston on Tuesday announced a $9 million expansion of its CALNEV pipeline, used to transport gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from California to Las Vegas.

The pipeline currently consists of two lines, one used exclusively for jet fuel and another for all types of fuel. Kinder Morgan said its jet fuel line is currently running at full capacity, and that the expansion project will increase its ability to transport jet fuel to McCarran International Airport.

Once complete, the general purpose fuel line's capacity will be boosted by nearly 20 percent, to 128,000 barrels per day. Kinder Morgan said it will also build additional handling and storage facilities at its terminal at McCarran.

The expansion should be complete by the second quarter of 2002. Costs will be split between Kinder Morgan and LASFUEL, the airport's fuel consortium.
