LV casino sues website operators over its name

Wednesday, June 6, 2001 | 10:57 a.m.

The Las Vegas Strip's New York-New York hotel-casino sued to stop the owner of two San Jose, Costa Rica companies; a Nine Mile Falls, Wash., man and a St. Johns, Antigua, business from using its domain name to offer online gaming services.

New York-New York, which said it owns the domain name "nynyhotelcasino.com," sued Dan Gallagher and his two Costa Rica companies, International Commercial LLC and International Commercial Financial LLC; Mike Sattler of Nine Mile Falls and Media One Ent. Ltd. of St. Johns in U.S. District Court.

The suit said Gallagher and his companies registered and linked three domain names, "casino-nyny.com," " casinonyny.com" and "nylivecasino.com" to an online casino called New York Casino & Sportsbook, while Mike Sattler allegedly registered and linked a domain name "nynycasinos.net" to an online casino called NYNY Casinos.net. Media One allegedly registered and linked "wwwnynyhotelcasino.com" to an online casino entitled "bettingExpress."

Sattler declined comment on the allegations, while the other defendants could not be reached for comment.
