Ross, member of pioneer family, dies

CARSON CITY -- A funeral is pending for Janis W. Ross, who died Friday at a hospital in California.

Ross, 66, was the wife of Nevada attorney John Tom Ross, a member of a pioneer Nevada family and a former member of the Board of Regents of the University and Community College System of Nevada.

Ross' ancestors arrived in Eagle Valley with the Mormons and camped on the site of the current state Capitol.

Survivors include her husband and children, Marla Ann Ross of Portland, Ore., Thomas W. Ross of Las Vegas, Cynthia Ross of Reno and John R. Ross of Washington D.C.

The family suggests donations be made in her name to the athletic department of the University of Nevada, Reno.
