Girl needs break from increased responsibility

Tuesday, June 5, 2001 | 10:04 a.m.

Parents of a 12-year-old girl say they have been depending a lot on their daughter since her father became sick.

"She has been doing a lot of changing this year, and I think she needs to have something that is just hers," her mother says.

Her mother says much has been asked of her daughter, and she has been doing it cheerfully.

A camping experience would help keep the girl happy and healthy, her mother says.

Sometimes it's simple things, such as toasting marshmallows and singing around the campfire and being around camp counselors who are positive role models, that are the memories that a child carries with her through life.
