Program scheduled at Doolittle Center
The city of Las Vegas will host Safe Summer Nights to promote a violence-free season.
The event will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 12 at the Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St.
Representatives from the Las Vegas Detention and Enforcement and Metro Police's K-9 units, youth organizations, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, and others will be on hand for demonstrations and to answer questions about community programs.
Safe Summer Nights is a prelude to the Late Night Hoops, a grant-funded youth basketball program initiated by the city of Las Vegas to promote athletics as an alternative to crime. Late Night Hoops begins at 9 p.m., immediately following the Safe Summer Nights event.
CineVegas seeks volunteers to help
The CineVegas International Film Festival organization and the Entertainment Development Corp. of Las Vegas have merged, and the organization is looking for volunteers.
CineVegas International Film Festival is a program of national and international films, documentaries, short film competitions, film production seminars and lifetime achievement awards.
Entertainment Development Corp. of Las Vegas, in concert with CineVegas, presents special entertainment events, benefits and industry networking and business seminars throughout the year.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer and donating 10 to 20 hours a week should call 368-2890, or e-mail CineVegas@aol.com.
Aid for AIDS of Nevada
is in need of volunteers for its food pantry. Volunteers will help with serving lunch, sorting and stocking food, passing out food pantry bags, cleaning and various other duties. Individuals interested in volunteering can call 382-2326.
