Accident kills driver on Saturday
Henderson Police are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred Saturday afternoon on Windmill Parkway just west of Green Valley Parkway.
The accident happened about 2 p.m. when a white Jeep Cherokee headed westbound on Windmill struck the right curb causing the driver, James A. Short, 64, of Henderson, to lose control of the car, police said.
The Cherokee rolled, and Short died at the scene, police said.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police at 565-8933 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
DA's office gets report
North Las Vegas Police have forwarded their investigation into the death of an infant left inside a car to the Clark County District Attorney's office.
The 9-month-old boy died on May 24 at University Medical Center. He had been left in a car seat inside a sport utility vehicle in the driveway of a home near Simmons Street and Lone Mountain Road, on May 22.
The baby was in the car for about two hours, with outside temperatures reaching as high as 95.
The district attorney's office will determine if the child's mother will face prosecution for leaving the child in the car.
Officials search for cause of blaze
Las Vegas Fire Department officials are still working to determine the cause of a Thursday morning fire at the Gold Spike hotel that caused nearly $150,000 in damage and injured 17 people.
Fire investigators believe the fire started in a guest room on the third floor in one of two mattresses in the room, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.
Flood control job starts on Oakey
Work on the Interstate 15 flood control project will force Oakey Boulevard to be narrowed two one traffic lane in each direction between Martin Luther King Boulevard and the freeway.
The closures are expected to continue through the next six weeks, with Sahara Avenue and Charleston Boulevard listed as alternative routes.
