Deal made in sexual assault case

Friday, June 1, 2001 | 10:19 a.m.

A 28-year-old Las Vegas man has agreed to plead guilty to sexually assaulting his 11-year-old stepdaughter, who is now seven months pregnant with his child.

The man, whose name is being withheld by the Sun to protect the identity of the child, will formally plead guilty to sexual assault June 7 before District Judge Joseph Bonaventure.

The man waived his right to a preliminary hearing and announced his intention to plead guilty Thursday during a court appearance before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Jennifer Togliatti.

As the result of a plea agreement, the man will receive a life sentence with parole possible after 10 years.

The man was originally charged with two counts of sexual assault of a minor under 14, Deputy District Attorney William Kephart said.
