Letter: Why no outcry over transport of nuke weapons?
Tuesday, July 31, 2001 | 9:24 a.m.
There have been numerous articles in the newspapers and statements by politicians highlighting the alleged danger of transporting spent nuclear fuel. Nuclear weapons have been transported and stored for over 50 years.
These weapons are arguably more hazardous than spent fuel since they contain plutonium, weapons grade uranium and tritium, and high explosives.
Why have there been no protests about these shipments? How many accidents have there been in which there was radioactive contamination?
