Cab firm will donate its used vehicles to two nonprofit groups

Tuesday, July 31, 2001 | 9:03 a.m.

Lucky Limousine and Cab Co., in collaboration with Business Bank of Nevada, is donating expired cabs to MASH Village and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Nevada law requires cab companies to replace their vehicles every four years, but instead of selling them, Jason Awad, owner of the company, will be donating them. Awad hopes to donate 10 cars a year to both nonprofit groups.

MASH will be selling the cars to raise money for both organizations. The cars receive a paint job, tune up, new tires and battery before they are donated to the groups.

"This is an amazing gesture on the part of Mr. Awad and his cab company, and we feel very honored to be one of the nonprofit organizations chosen for this generous donation," Dean Collins, vice president and development director for MASH Village, said. "The money raised from the sale of these vehicles will go a long way in helping a growing number of homeless families in our community."
