Monday, July 30, 2001 | 9:40 a.m.
CARSON CITY -- Progressive Insurance Co. and its affiliates have asked state Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman for permission to raise vehicle rates an average 4.6 percent.
Under the application, bodily injury coverage would go up 2.1 percent, but property damage would jump 12.4 percent. Nevada law requires a motorist to have those two coverages.
Premiums to pay for medical payments would increase 5.3 percent, uninsured motorist coverage would jump 12.2 percent, comprehensive premiums would be lowered by 1.4 percent and collision payments would increase 2.5 percent.
About 55 percent of the cars covered by the Progressive companies are in Clark County, which is broken down into 11 zones. The increase in each zone is different.
The last Progressive rate increase, which went into effect in September 2000, was 3.9 percent.
