Man arrested in killing at tavern

Monday, July 30, 2001 | 11:10 a.m.

A 37-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection was the shooting death of a man earlier this month in a bar.

Robert Lee Austin was taken into custody when he reported for a meeting with his federal probation officer at the U.S. Probation Office. Austin gave no resistance and was booked into the Clark County jail, Metro Police said.

Austin is accused in the June 21 shooting death of Charles B. Fields, 25, in the bathroom of the Heritage Lounge on West Owens Avenue.

Police acknowledge that rumors have connected the slaying of Fields as retaliation for the August 1999 killing of James "Junebug" Lee, but investigators have not been able to link the slayings to an absolute certainty, police said.
