Collision takes life of man, 47

A 47-year-old Las Vegas man died when the Jeep Cherokee he was driving ran a stop sign and collided with a pickup Thursday night, Metro Police said.

James R. Turner was driving his Jeep on Alexander Road about 8:10 p.m. and apparently ran the stop sign at the intersection with Lamb Boulevard, police said. A Chevrolet pickup, driven by Noe Villacana, on Lamb Boulevard collided with Turner's Jeep.

Turner was partially ejected from the Jeep and pinned under the vehicle when it turned onto its left side, police said. Turner died at the scene. Villacana, and his wife and daughter, who were passengers in the truck, suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The cause of the accident appears to be failure to stop at a stop sign, police said. The failure to use a seat belt appears to have contributed to the severity of the injuries Turner sustained, police said.

Argument leads to killing

The name of a man shot in a busy intersection as he was trying to get out of a sport utility vehicle Tuesday morning was identified as 33-year-old James A. Holt.

Holt and Danny McRae, 45, apparently were arguing inside a Jeep Cherokee while a third person was driving. The argument was over a woman, Metro Police said.

The shooting happened about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Charleston Boulevard and Antelope Way.

McRae and the driver of the Jeep drove off, but witnesses followed the Jeep and gave police the license plate number and the direction it was heading. About 10 minutes after the shooting McRae and the 19-year-old female driver were arrested.

McRae was booked into the Clark County jail on a murder charge. The woman was questioned and released.
