Letter: U.S. racking up interest charges

So the national debt is fully funded according to letter writer J. D. Dooley (July 24). The $5.7 trillion debt requires annual interest payments of more than $362 billion (fiscal 2000). Isn't this similar to paying the minimum payment on your credit card statement and adding increasing interest charges?
