Fuel surcharge rejected

The Nevada Taxicab Authority won't implement a fuel surcharge for passengers riding in Clark County's taxis, but approved a plan to review the impact of rising gasoline prices on a quarterly basis.
"There won't be any increase at this time," said John Plunkett, administrator of the Taxicab Authority. "When this was first considered, the prices had spiked, but now it's down in the $1.40s."
In June, the agency that regulates Clark County's 14 cab companies conducted hearings to consider a fuel surcharge of between 10 cents and 20 cents per trip to compensate for higher fuel costs.
Plunkett said while the surcharge was rejected, he plans to report to the authority board every three months and make recommendations if the cost of fuel jumps by more than 10 percent over the price at the same time a year earlier.
