UNLV’s Kevin Thomas a Thorpe candidate

UNLV senior cornerback Kevin Thomas has been named to the Jim Thorpe Award Watch List for the second consecutive season.

The list was released this week by the honor's governing body, which has awarded the trophy to the nation's top defensive back each year since 1986. All 38 players on the list have been named as candidates for All-America honors by at least one preseason publication.

Thomas, a consensus choice for preseason All-Mountain West Conference, was tabbed 2001 preseason third-team All-America by Athlon magazine and honorable mention by Street & Smith's and Phil Steele.
