Scenic Airlines selected to fly to Ely

North Las Vegas-based Scenic Airlines has been selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide air service to Ely.
Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., made the announcement Wednesday, adding that Scenic will provide six round trips weekly to Las Vegas on a 19-passenger DeHavilland DH-6 Twin Otter.
The decision was the result of the Transportation Department's efforts since early this year to find a carrier to Ely, which has been without significant air service since Nov. 3.
While four airlines offered service between Ely and Salt Lake City, Scenic was the only one to offer a Las Vegas route, which Ely officials said was a priority .
