Letter: Typewriter gets the job done
Thursday, July 26, 2001 | 9:53 a.m.
This will sound a bit old-fashioned, but has anyone noticed, or will admit, how computers have messed things up?
Being one of the many who has paid and paid for so-called "technical support" that rarely has solved any problems -- as well as many more dollars to remove a password from my computer -- I decided to buy a backup.
While not planning to abandon my computer completely, I am now the proud owner of a beautiful dinosaur.
Yes, I have a brand new (gasp!) electric typewriter -- hard to find but, oh, what a pleasure. My dinosaur has word processing, a dictionary and thesaurus, a memory, 12 types of print, and it erases mistakes, too -- while costing only $130 complete. It's like rediscovering an old friend.
No waiting to "boot up," no viruses, no headaches. It's true -- newer is not always better.
