LAKE MEAD: Boaters have been finding good top water action for striped bass in recent days with the better success coming from the Boulder Basin. Unfortunately, shore anglers have been unable to enjoy the fine fishing as the fish are breaking in open water well beyond casting range.

Anglers reported to the Nevada Division of Wildlife that they were having good success over the weekend for stripers ranging from two to five pounds at Black Island, Las Vegas Bay and open water from Pyramid Island to the Hemenway Wall.

Stripers from one to two pounds are being caught above Overton Beach Marina and around Fish Island. Lures that imitate shad have been the most productive baits for boaters. These include Shad Rap, Sassy Shad and Zara Spook lures.

Channel catfish are still being caught during the evening hours in coves throughout the lake.

Largemouth bass are holding in deep water.

LAKE MOHAVE: Large crowds and good action for rainbow trout are being found following the weekly plants at Willow Beach. The next plant is scheduled to take place today. Typical summer fishing for striped bass continues with fish being caught in the narrows above Cottonwood Cove and at Owl's Point. Most of the fish are in the one-pound range and are being caught while still fishing and trolling with anchovies and squid.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Warm water temperatures have resulted in slow trout fishing. Success rates are somewhat better for largemouth bass with Adams-McGill Reservoir being the better fishing location.

Dana Johnson, area manager, said portions of Cold Springs, Haymeadow and Tule reservoirs will be closed from sunrise to approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6. The closure is due to an aerial spraying project to control aquatic vegetation on the lakes.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: The lake's water level is about four feet low due to a lack of precipitation, warm weather and agricultural use. Fishing has been sporadic for rainbow trout with some anglers taking limits of five fish while others have been unable to get a bite.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: Fishing activity has tapered off due to the low water level and warm weather. Fishing has been fair for small largemouth bass and slow for rainbow trout.
