Nevada was one of six states to receive a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to improve its residents' oral health.
The Nevada State Health Division will use the $319,000 to create and strengthen oral health programs. The division will work with the dental community in recruiting dental health professionals and developing other resources.
A state Office of Oral Health will be established to promote oral health policies, develop a state oral health plan and watch what the grant funds are being used for. Some of those funds will be used to develop a school-based dental program in 17 Nevada school districts.
The grant is renewable for five years. Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, New York and Republic of Palau also received grants from the CDC.
