Local testing lab APL changes name

A Las Vegas-based medical testing laboratory has changed its name.
Associated Pathologists Laboratories changed its name to American Medical Laboratories Inc., a company executive announced.
The name was changed to better reflect the national scope of the company following the merger of APL with American Medical Laboratories, Chantilly, Va., the company said.
"The name 'Associated Pathologists' is in use by over a dozen companies nationally," said AML President John Schwartz. "This was not a problem for the Las Vegas-based company initially. However, as APL expanded nationally, it caused confusion with other smaller companies."
AML is the third-largest medical- and drug-testing lab in the country with more than 3,000 employees, including 1,300 in Nevada.
