Parade set for Saturday

The Pioneer Day Parade and Old-Fashioned Games will begin 9 a.m. Saturday from the Estes McDoniel Elementary School parking lot on Fox Ridge Drive. The public is invited to this free event. For more information, call 933-7777.

Gays organizing group

The gay community will begin flexing its political muscle by organizing a new political club during a meeting Saturday.

The first general membership meeting of Southern Nevada Stonewall Democrats will be held at 1808 S. 17th St., beginning at 4 p.m.

Gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender Democrats are invited to attend.

Assemblyman David Parks, D-Las Vegas, will speak about the recently-concluded legislative session. Fred Bilodeau, president of Desert Stonewall Democrats of Palm Springs, Calif., will discuss how the group can organize politically.

First class set for graduation

The Neighborhood Youth College is graduating its first class 6 p.m. Monday at the North Las Vegas Justice Court, 2428 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., North Las Vegas. The college is a six-session leadership development program designed to help young people work with neighbors and local officials to work on neighborhood projects. Ten youths from 13 to 18 completed the course and will be honored. For more information, call 455-7240 or 455-1900.

Crime scene investigation seminar scheduled

The Business Watch Network is presenting a crime scene investigations seminar 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Palace Station, second floor. Metro Capt. Greg McCurdy will talk about crime scene investigations, Metro Police's forensic lab section, its evidence vault and other information. Cost is $25 for members, $30 for non-members.
